When lighting works well, you don’t really think about it. It simply feels right in the space. That’s the kind of experience Lux Affair has been building their work around, a boutique practice focused on quality, detail, and how lighting is actually experienced day to day.
Recently recognised as the Top Performing Casambi Service Partner in Singapore 2025, the team works closely with designers, architects, and owners to create lighting environments that go beyond just function.
The name itself reflects this mindset. “Lux” represents light, while “Affair” speaks to the experience and atmosphere it creates. Together, it captures their belief that lighting sits somewhere between science and art.
As part of our Stories of Light blog series, we continue the conversation with the people shaping wireless lighting. In this feature, we speak with Aaron, co-founder of Lux Affair, to understand his journey, his approach to lighting design, and how Casambi supports the way he bring ideas to life.
A Boutique Approach to Lighting
From the start, Lux Affair set out to do things a little differently. Instead of focusing purely on fixtures, they look at lighting as part of the overall experience of a space.
Aaron and his team work closely with designers, architects, and owners to create lighting that feels balanced, highlights architectural details, and supports how the space is actually used. Most of their projects fall within residential and smaller-scale commercial spaces, where attention to detail is key.
A key part of their approach is 1-to-1 Casambi tunable white lighting, where each fitting can be individually controlled and adjusted to suit different moods and functions within a space.
Aaron’s journey with Casambi began in 2023, while he was exploring alternatives to traditional wired control systems. Wired setups often come with higher costs and less flexibility, especially when changes are needed after installation.
Casambi offered a different direction, giving similar control but with more flexibility through a wireless setup, along with a solution that is both stable and scalable compared to more basic smart home systems.
“Some systems are suitable for basic use, but Casambi gives us a more stable and scalable solution, especially for higher-end projects.”
For Aaron, that balance of flexibility and reliability made it a natural fit for the way Lux Affair works.
From Concept to Completion

Most clients come to Lux Affair looking for more than just lighting. They are looking to create a certain mood or feeling within their space.
The process usually start at their experience centre, where clients can see and try different lighting effects and control options in person. It helps them better understand how lighting can influence a space before any installation begins.
From there, the team develops lighting layouts and, where needed, supports the design with DIALux simulations to help visualise how everything comes together.
Once installation is complete, Lux Affair handles on-site commissioning. This includes setting up the Casambi network, grouping lights, adjusting sensors, and creating scenes based on how the space will actually be used. Automation such as timers and sensors is also added so the lighting responds naturally throughout the day.
One of the things Aaron often highlights is how well Casambi works across different systems, including DALI and 0–10V. This gives the team the freedom to design without being restricted by technical limitations, while still keeping things simple to install and scale.
It also helps clear up a common misconception.
“Many people assume a system like this needs a central hub, but Casambi runs on a Bluetooth mesh network, which makes it much easier to deploy and expand.”
From experience, Aaron shares that careful planning goes a long way. Clear grouping, thoughtful scene design, and the right use of automation help keep the system intuitive and practical.
The final step is user training, making sure clients feel comfortable using the system and confident making adjustments as their needs change.
Designing for Real Spaces
What stands out in Lux Affair’s work is how lighting is designed around real-life use, not just technical requirements.
This is becoming more important as expectations continue to shift. Lighting is no longer seen as something that is simply turned on or off. It is expected to adapt to different moments throughout the day, whether for rest, work, or social settings.
With Casambi, lighting can be adjusted based on time, activity, or preference. When planned well, the system remains simple to use while still offering the flexibility to support different experiences within the same space.
“Lighting should follow how people live in the space, not just how the fixtures are installed.”
A Project That Brings It All Together

One project that reflects this approach is Otelia Bay, a beachfront venue at Changi Beach Club.
The space required a fully integrated lighting solution across multiple zones, using over 250 tunable white and RGBW fittings. The challenge was to create a system that could support a wide range of events, from wedding lunches and evening dinners to corporate functions and pop-up exhibitions.
Each event called for a different atmosphere, but the overall experience still needed to feel consistent and seamless.
With Casambi, the team designed and programmed lighting scenes that allow the space to shift smoothly between different moods, creating a flexible environment that can adapt easily to changing needs.
Looking Ahead

Lighting today is expected to do more than just illuminate a space. More clients are looking for systems that support mood, wellbeing, and everyday living.
This shift is influencing how lighting is designed and delivered across Singapore, with wireless solutions playing an increasingly important role.
For Lux Affair, this also means creating more opportunities for clients to experience lighting firsthand. Their new showroom at Vertex, which opened in April 2026, gives visitors a dedicated space to explore different lighting effects and see how dynamic lighting can change the feel of a space.
It is another step towards making thoughtful, well-designed lighting more accessible, while continuing to explore what lighting can become in everyday spaces.
